Investing in better 4WD experiences

With more than 45,000km of vehicle tracks ready to explore in our parks and state forests, Victoria offers an exciting and diverse landscape for your next 4WD adventure.

Victoria's Great Outdoors is investing $10.5 million to improve 4WD tracks and facilities, making Victoria the premier destination for four-wheel driving on and off the beaten track.

Upgrading iconic routes

This $9.5 million investment will improve 7 iconic 4WD adventures. Upgrades include better track access and conditions, and new facilities and activities at trailheads such as campgrounds, lookouts and short walks. Some routes will be modified so that users of all levels of experience can enjoy the tracks.

  • River Red Gum Drive
  • Snowy River Drive
  • Wonnangatta Drive

Maintenance works to improve campgrounds along tracks are planned for:

  • High Country touring route
  • Aberfeldy Back Road Tour
  • Wombat 4WD Tour
  • Circuit Road Forest Drive
  • Haunted Steam Track
  • Nunniong Plains Track

These upgrades are being delivered in partnership between the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action and Parks Victoria, working together with Traditional Owners, local communities and stakeholders.
