About this campground
Located almost 1 hour drive south of Corryong, Ski Hut was rebuilt after it was destroyed by bushfire in 2019-2020.
The hut has a wood heater and small kitchenette with non-drinkable water. The site also has a toilet and a BBQ so you can cook meals.
There are multiple camping opportunities in and around the hut. Set up a swag or tent next to the picnic table and BBQ pit or if the weather is poor roll out a swag in the hut.
There is enough space in the hut for several campers at the same time, but not enough space for larger groups.
History of Ski Hut
Ski Hut was first built in 1951 as a ski lodge for locals and members to use. It was originally known as Lind Lodge after Sir Albert Lind, Minister for Forests, who approved its construction.
Once the lodge was completed, it provided bunk bed style shelter for overnight stays.
At its peak in the mid 1960s the lodge membership grew to between 150 and 200 members. This was due to the large number of people who worked on the construction of the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme during this period.
When the scheme was completed, the hut’s membership declined, and the Forests Commission took over the management of the lodge. It was then used to accommodate forestry workers until the mid-1980s.
