About this tour
This self-guided 4WD tour starts from the historic town of Aberfeldy and finishes in Woods Point. It takes in the rich history of the Jordan Valley region.
Travel through old gold mining settlements, see heritage sites and relics along the way. Interpretive signs along the way explain the story of miners in search of their fortune.
Enjoy the historic settlements of Red Jacket and Jericho, including the cemeteries.
Campgrounds are south of Woods Point at Comet Flat, or to the north at Jack Scotts.
This tour is best done during the warmer months, when all the roads are open.
If travelling in winter or spring, some sections of the tour will be seasonally closed. But you can still follow a shorter 37 km route via the main Walhalla Road to Matlock, before turning onto Warburton-Woods Point Road, which takes you into Woods Point.
Extend your tour
You can extend this tour by adding the Aberfeldy Crossing Side Trip, which is rated Difficult (Black), and takes you down to a scenic river crossing.
To extend your journey even further, continue north of Woods Point towards Mansfield and connect to the Upper Goulburn 4WD Tour.
