About these trails

Just over 3 hours’ north-east of Melbourne and close to Beechworth, Albury and Wodonga, you’ll find the quaint town of Yackandandah – or Yack, as it’s known to locals.

The Yack Tracks trailhead is 4.5 km from Yackandandah in the Stanley State Forest. It’s the gateway to a purpose-built mountain bike network of more than 90 km of singletrack including the Indigo Epic Trail. It features easy to intermediate-level trails and an all abilities trail suitable for those riding adaptive mountain bikes.

There are also unpowered camping areas suitable for tents and camper trailers in nearby state forest. You can find out more about these sites and their facilities on the More to Explore app.

A ride for every ability

The trailhead is at a small picnic area next to Yackandandah Creek, where you’ll find scattered tables and grassed areas. From here you can enjoy extended cross-country mountain bike trails that are both low profile and low impact as well access the Indigo Epic Trail.

The central green loop is an easier 5 km loop, while most of the other trails are suitable for more experienced riders.

The rides include some moderate climbs followed by flowing descents. This area is rich with gold mining history. Look out for old mining races, gullies and tailings as you ride.

Signs indicate the best direction to ride each loop.

Pick your trail

There are 5 main loop tracks with long gentle climbs and fast flowing descents and catering to riders of all levels. Most tracks feature remnants of the region's mining history.

All abilities loop

The all abilities - green - Loop is an exciting introductory trail designed for all riders including those who need additional width and a less challenging course. This trail is suitable for adaptive mountain bikes (MTB) up to a width of 1300 mm.

The carpark and access to the start of the trail are at the Yack Tracks MTB trailhead. The carpark is compacted gravel, allowing for wheelchair and adaptive MTB access. Please note that the carpark is small and can be busy during peak periods, including weekends and school holidays.

There is a basic drop toilet onsite, with limited accessibility. The nearest accessible toilet is in Yackandandah Township, a 5 minute drive away.
