About this picnic area

The Barnewall Plains picnic area sits in a saddle below Mt Torbreck, in the Rubicon State Forest.

The Traditional Owners of this area are the Taungurung people. Evidence of indigenous habitation exists throughout the forest, such as artefact scatters and scar trees.

Stop here for a picnic after exploring the surrounding forest and make use of the picturesque grassy area with picnic tables and wood fire pits.

A walking track to the summit of Mt Torbreck takes off from here. It’s a slightly challenging walk but offers incredible views of the ranges in all directions.

During winter the picnic area can be covered in snow. Park your car below the seasonal gate closure and walk up to enjoy some winter snow play.
