About this picnic area

A 30-minute drive north-west from the town of Beaufort, Ben Nevis is an elevated and scenic picnic area set among stunning granite outcrop within the Mt Cole State Forest.

Enjoy impressive panoramic views of the surrounding districts. You'll see the jagged silhouette of the Grampians Ranges dominating the western horizon. The softer contours of the Pyrenees Range can be viewed to the north.

For the best views walk up the 'Management Vehicle Only' track. There you can find the commemoration plaque for the Avro Anson aircraft W2020 from 1942.

Ben Nevis is also a favourite for hang gliders due to its good thermals. Take-off is from a large granite outcrop facing west, with a sheer vertical drop of 150m.
