About this site

Chinamans Campground is a large open area surrounded by bushland in the Mt Cole State Forest. It’s a popular family-friendly site for walking, camping, horse riding and four-wheeling driving.

Located on the north-west side of the mountain, this campground tends to be warmer and drier than other parts of the forest making it great option for an outdoor getaway during the cooler months.

Plan a day trip here and enjoy the beautiful scenery from the picnic area. This is a great place for birdwatching, with more than 130 species of birds sighted in Mt Cole State Forest. For a longer stay, set up camp and explore the forest's many walks including the Beeripmo Walk.

Dogs are permitted in the forest and a horse pen is available for visitor use so be sure to bring along your four-legged friends.

Campground

This attractive and spacious campground is suitable for individuals and larger groups. There is ample parking with plenty of room for small caravans or camper trailers. Basic facilities at this site include toilets and fire pits.

Picnic area

Take your pick of picnic spots in this open, grassy area. You’ll find a number of picnic tables, a fire pit and a large picnic shelter with covered tables that can be accessed by wheelchair.

Accessibility information

This campground is suitable for visitors in a wheelchair or with limited mobility. Facilities include accessible car parking, toilet and wheelchair friendly picnic tables.

The carpark is gravel. It is connected to the accessible toilet and picnic tables by wide concrete paths.

There are no formed paths to the campsites so you need to be able to navigate the natural surfaces, which can be soft or bumpy depending on the location or weather. Being able to select which campsite you set up in gives you the ability to choose one that may be easier to access depending on your needs.

Weather conditions can impact the ground surfaces, including the carpark, and may cause accessibility levels to change suddenly.
