About the parklands
The Sandbelt Parklands is an ambitious project to create and connect large areas of open space for communities in Melbourne’s south-east.
The Victorian Government has acquired former landfill sites to contribute to a 355-hectare chain of parks, connecting new and existing parklands between Moorabbin and Dingley Village.
The Victorian Government is working with Kingston City Council, Traditional Owners and the community to inform the vision for the new parks.

Where are the parklands located?
The parklands are located in Melbourne’s south-east, between Moorabbin and Dingley Village, on Bunurong Country.

When will the parklands open?
Existing parks and open space in the area are open to the public now, including:
- Karkarook Park (managed by Parks Victoria)
- Victory Road Reserve (managed by Kingston City Council)
- Elder Street Reserve (managed by Kingston City Council)
- Spring Road Reserve (managed by Kingston City Council)
- Spring Valley Park (managed by the City of Greater Dandenong)
- Rowan Road Reserve (managed by Kingston City Council)
- Spring Park Public Golf Course
- Braeside Park (managed by Parks Victoria)
The former landfill sites acquired through the Suburban Parks Program are being managed by qualified contractors, under Environment Protection Authority requirements. It will take several years to make these new sites safe for public use.
Transforming the former landfill sites into new parklands will include multiple stages of planning and consultation over the coming years to inform future investment.
